Hello everyone,

    Well another week has past and we are into a new year.  I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday.  Here in the East Cape I do not know what people did over the holiday week.  Some I am sure spent the holiday week inside rooting for there favorite collage football team if they were in a bowl game or took a nice drive along the coast or some many even be returning here to Baja after there holiday travels.  One thing I do know is that not many people here in the East Cape were fishing over this past week due to the wind.

    Here in the East Cape it has been a very windy week.  The wind has been constant for a good six or seven days.  The wind usually dies at night and we get at least a few hours in the early morning to chase some of the Sierra that are in the area but this week the wind has ether not settled during the night or it has picked up very early in the morning not giving the anglers that are here much of a chance.  Before the wind started we had good fishing during the early morning hours for Sierra along the beaches and inshore.  We also had a few Marlin in the area along with the occasional Dorado and Tuna.

I have been spending my time over in Cabo San Lucas guiding my clients.  We saw some good fishing last week out of Cabo San Lucas.  We had good action near shore for Sierra Mackerel.  We were able to tease up some very nice schools that were willing  to eat the fly.  Most of the Sierra were between Four and Six pounds with some larger fish hooked but not landed.  Mixed in with the Sierra we found a decent number of Rooster fish.  We found more Rooster fish on the Sea of Cortez side in the area of Palmilla than we did on the Pacific side.  Most of the Rooster fish averaged around five pounds.

    Offshore in Cabo the Marlin bite has been spotty.  The main catch this past week was Dorado.  We had one nice day on Dorado with a catch of eight fish.  All on fly.  All released.  I did hear of a few tuna being found further off shore but I do not know the details.

    I am headed back to Cabo San Lucas tomorrow to fish with my guest and very good friend Garrett Gill from Denver Colorado.  Garrett is ready for the sunshine and beautiful temperatures Baja provides this time of year as Colorado has had high’s in the teens for most of this past week.  I will be sure to let you all know how we do.
