Is this a quality reel (Pinnacle Matrix Spinning Reel 40)?

Im thinking of puting braided line on it. Also if you could suggest decent braided line. I'm looking to catch bass, wallye, catfish, pike, and maybe soome carp. Im goiing toobe fishing in some heavly weeded areas.

In my opinion, you can get much, much better reels for just $20 more. The 40-size of the reel holds 160-yards of 12 LB mono which should do fine for those fish. But, you may consider buying two maybe even three different outfits.

Baitcasting reel, 15 LB mono, 7′ M/H rod for Catfish & Pike.

Spinning reel, 10 LB mono, 7′ M rod for Walleye, Bass, & Carp.

Braid is not a good choice for all of those fish. I would consider spooling your reel up with 12 LB mono (berkley big game) and only adding a leader of 50 LB braid when you’re heavy cover Bass fishing or for Pike. A 7′ MH rod will do for all of those species but you may find it a tad bit too stiff for most walleye.

In all honesty, you could have gotten a lot more reel for your buck if you spent $20 more and bought the Pflueger President, size 40.

Bottom line? Spool your reel with 12 LB Berkley Big Game and buy a very small spool of braid (probably 100-yard or something like that) for leaders when you’re fishing in heavy cover for Bass or when you’re going after Pike.

You know sometimes in life you can only afford what you can afford at that particular time in your life.I have bought a lot of things that were not higer end just so I could fish with something. If that is your case also by all means go ahead and buy the Pinnacle reel. For the money it cost it is a good deal. And I have a friend that says that it is a good reel for the price you are paying. Buy it, use it and move up when you are able to afford more.

I like dumdum’s answer. I don’t have a lot of money I do have a lot of fishing gear none are high end stuff. Get what you can afford. My friend has a flea market booth and sells a lot of Pinnacles. Most of my rods and reels come from yard sales. I paid $3 for a old Daiwa gs15 took it home gave it a good cleaning and lube job some new line. Put it on a used rhino rod love it.
